OTTAWA:
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) held a press conference on
Parliament Hill today to raise the alarm that the federal debt will
climb past a half trillion dollars - $500,000,000,000.00 on Sunday,
November 22nd, at 10:56:53 p.m. The size and speed of growth of the
federal debt may be seen at www.debtclock.ca.
CTF
Federal Director, Kevin Gaudet said, “Canadians need a deficit action
plan now. The mountainous debt problem amounts to fiscal child abuse as
both current and future generations will have to pay it off”.
After
11 years of surpluses, federal politicians have taken Canada back into
deficit, projecting to add no less than $170-billion more to the debt
by 2014-15.
At the press conference the CTF revealed a novelty
cheque from future taxpayers to the current government in the amount of
$500 billion, as future taxpayers will be paying off the over-spending
by the government of today. This amounts to $14,880.39 for each man,
woman, and child in Canada.
The federal government is currently borrowing $1,772.58 per second due to its $55.9 billion projected deficit.
Since
its founding in 1990, the CTF consistently has led the fight against
rising debt. The first debt clock was launched in 1993 in an effort to
highlight the dangers of deficit financing and the need for balanced
budgets. The clock displayed the per-second increase in debt along with
the share for each Canadian family. The CTF drove the debt clock across
the country during its campaign against continued deficits. It was
retired in 1997 when the federal government finally balanced the
budget. The CTF’s new debt clock at www.debtclock.ca is built for the new web generation.
$500 billion Debt Facts:
The first time the debt clock surpassed $500 billion was on August 2, 1994 at 7:27:03AM.
It fell below $500 billion on October 30, 2003 at 2:47:41AM.
The debt rolled into loonies lain on the ground, end-to-end, around the equator, would encircle the earth 21.2 times.
A
$500 billion stack of loonies would reach from the Earth to the moon,
and back again, and then quarter of the way back to the moon again.
A
stack of hundred dollar bills lain on its side on the ground would
reach all the way around the earth once and then 10% again.
The
debt piled as a giant stack of hundred dollar bills would build a tower
as high as the CN tower ; 553m high and 15m by 30m wide.
Gaudet
concluded, “the CTF has been invited to meet with Finance Minister
Flaherty Dec. 4th in Halifax. At the meeting the CTF will present its
Deficit Action Plan to balance the federal budget.”

ROME, November 16, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The news about abortion, marriage, divorce and the birth rate in Europe is bad and only getting worse, a report recently presented to the EU said.
According to the report by Norway's Institute for Family Policies abortion rates in Britain have leaped by a third among unmarried teenage girls and abortion is helping to age the population of Europe. Without a massive shift to family-friendly policies, the pattern of increased abortion and increasingly aging population will inevitably lead to the collapse of social welfare benefits, and, ultimately, to the bankruptcy of Europe's cradle-to-grave socialist welfare state.
Presented to the European Parliament on Wednesday, the report said that the situation of the family in Europe is "a desolate panorama."
"Europe is plunged in an unprecedented demographic winter and has become an elderly continent, with a large birth deficit, fewer marriages and more of them broken, homes emptying."
"The aging population, critical birth-rate, escalating abortions, the collapse of marriage, the explosion in family breakups and the emptying of homes are the main problems of Europeans," the 2009 Report on the Evolution of the Family in Europe said.
The study found that the annual number of abortions in the EU equals the entire combined population of its ten smallest member states, with the three top aborting countries being Britain, France and Romania. In Europe there is one abortion every 25 seconds, for a total of more than 1,200,000 abortions a year. 19 percent of all European pregnancies end in abortion and 28 million children have been killed by abortion since 1990, making abortion the main cause of death in Europe.
The population over 65 years in all European states already exceeds the population under 14 years. The EU under 14 population has fallen from 89 million in 1993 to 78.4 million in 2008. Over-65s have risen from 68.3 million in 1993 to 84.9 million in 2008 - an increase of 16.5 million elderly people. The average age of EU citizens is 40.3 years, with Italy and Germany having the highest populations of elderly people.
The dropping European birth rate, the report says, with its concomitant increasing health and pension costs, will lead to increases in public expenditure to care for the aging population and the eventual collapse of public revenues, leading finally to the bankruptcy of the welfare state. The average birth rate of EU countries is now 1.38 per woman, well below the replacement rate of 2.1 births per woman, even in relatively fertile countries like France.
Without a significant shift in family policies in all EU countries, the report predicts the result will be "catastrophic." Starting in 2010, the population of Europe overall will begin to fall from 499 million to 472 million by 2050 and every third inhabitant will be over 65.
According to the study, Britain is the "abortion capital of Europe" with rates that last year pulled ahead of France. Its abortion rate is fifth in the world, behind Russia, the U.S., India and Japan. Among these countries, Britain can least afford such a high rate, with a population less than half that of Russia and Japan, a fifth that of the US, and 1/19 that of India. The median age of women in Britain is also rising, at 41.3 years, making recovery even more difficult.
The population of the 27 EU nations reached 500 million last year with most increases in population (78 per cent) attributable to immigration, not births. The natural increase of Europe's population is 12 times lower than the US. Spain has immigration 9 times greater than its internal birth increase and Italy's native population fell (-0.14 million) and had 23 times more immigrants than births (+3.28 million). Poland, Romania and Bulgaria are losing citizens by emigration and Lithuania, Latvia, Romania and Bulgaria have falling populations due to low immigration rates.
Only France, Holland, Finland and Slovakia have internal rates of population increase higher than their immigration figures.
Other indicators show the number of marriages, especially first marriages, is down and divorce rates are up. There are 1 in 4 fewer marriages than in 1980 and the marriage rate has fallen in 9 out 10 countries. One out of every 3 children (36.5 per cent) is born outside marriage. In some countries the fall in marriage rate has been around 50 per cent since 1983 and there are over one million divorces a year, the equivalent to one marital breakdown every 30 seconds.
More people (55 million) are living alone than ever before. One in four households in Europe has a single dweller and two out of three households have no children. Of the households with children, 50 per cent have only one child.
The report recommends the creation of a European Union ministry of the family, laws to increase flexibility of working hours to accommodate families, increases in tax benefits for families and an emphasis on family welfare programs over welfare for individuals.
It calls for governments to recognize the rights of families, including the right of parents to reconcile work and family life; to have the number of children they want; to choose the type of education their children receive and the right of children to live in a stable home.

Climatism is More Than a Belief System By Peter Foster A fired official believes climate change is equivalent to a
religious belief. Who could disagree? Horrified commentators on both
left and right have suggested that environmentalism will now be
established as a religion.
Sustainable Development, which sprung
fully-armed from the fretful socialist head of the UN’s Brundtland
Commission, is indeed a religion, and it has a devil: capitalism. It
thus seems suicidal for any company to accommodate it, let alone
embrace it. It has no workable definition except for the feel good
notion of “looking after the future.” It explicitly rejects free
markets as leading to resource exhaustion and environmental
destruction. As such it is not based on science, much less economics,
but on primitive pre-market assumptions, which just happen to be very
useful to prospective “global governors.”
The spread of SD, like
that of its equally subversive sister concept, “Corporate Social
Responsibility,” is yet another indication of companies’ willingness to
go with the flow of a public opinion formed by their enemies. They do
this in a fit of abstraction, or from hypocrisy, fear, or genuine
naivete. After all, who doesn’t want to be responsible and sustainable?
But in appointing vice presidents of CSR or SD, they are taking on
board champions of an ultimately suicidal thrust. http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fpcomment/archive/2009/11/10/peter-foster-climatism-is-more-than-a-belief-system.aspx
From Berlin to Copenhagen by Peter Foster
This week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told the U.S.
Congress that inaction on climate change amounted to a new “Berlin
Wall” of “short- sighted self-interest.” Ms. Merkel’s claim was upside
down. There is indeed a new threat to freedom in the offing, but it is
the Green Wall that she is recommending. It will span the globe, and
there will be no escape.
What collapsed twenty years ago was
Communism. What didn’t collapse was anti-capitalism. The new name for
anti-capitalism is environmentalism. The truly astonishing fact is that
there is no evidence whatsoever either for the exhaustion of resources,
the despoliation of the global environment, or any man-made impact on
the climate.
The new strategy for global control was being
formulated before the Wall fell, and went global at the 1992 UN
conference in Rio, which was masterminded by self-proclaimed Canadian
socialist Maurice Strong. The success of this movement is such that the
Orwellian shibboleths of “sustainable development” and “corporate
social responsibility” are now parroted by virtually every democratic
leader and corporate chieftain on earth.
Democracy has come under
attack both from above, via the “post-democratic” UN, and from below,
via the manufactured voice of an activist NGO minority that dubs itself
“civil society” (and which Mr. Strong very deliberately let into Rio).
Recently,
The New York Times’ Thomas Friedman suggested that totalitarian control
might not be such a bad idea. “One-party autocracy certainly has its
drawbacks,” he wrote. “But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened
group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages.
Just
as 2008 represented a crisis not of capitalism but of the “mixed
economy,” so the contradictions implicit in seeking to combine welfare
statism, Keynesianism and climatism threaten the world economy with
collapse, which is in fact the unequivocally stated objective of Mr.
Strong and his cohorts.
Václav Klaus: ‘Largest Tax Increase in World History’ I don’t expect any demonstrations in Copenhagen now. The
anti-establishment people have in the meantime become insiders and will
be sitting in the main hall. This is a shift with far-reaching
consequences.
We are meeting one month before the Climate Change
Copenhagen Summit and several weeks before the U.S. Senate hearing
regarding the cap-and-trade scheme.
The people who had never
believed in human freedom, in impersonal forces of the market and other
forms of human interaction and in the spontaneity of social development
and who had always wanted to control, regulate and mastermind us have
been searching for a persuasive argument that would justify these
ambitions of theirs. After trying several alternative ideas —
population bomb, rapid exhaustion of resources, global cooling, acid
rains, ozone holes — that all very rapidly proved to be non-existent,
they came up with the idea of global warming. A cap-and-trade scheme is a government intervention par excellence.
The
size of the cap defines the price of carbon and this price is nothing
else than a tax imposed upon citizens of the country. I agree with Lord
Monckton that the cap-and-trade bill “is the largest tax increase ever
to be inflicted on a population in the history of the world.” How is it
possible that such arguments are not used? Why does nobody argue that
to tax energy means that the costs of anti-global warming policy will
disproportionally fall onto the poor people?
Caritas Says Climate Change Will Drastically Increase World Hunger
Caritas, the umbrella organization for 164 Catholic
charities, said it has signed a joint statement addressed to
environmental ministers and other officials who will participate in the
U.N. Summit for Climate Change Dec. 7-18 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The
message includes both dire warnings and practical suggestions for
action.
BRYAN, Texas, November 2, 2009
(LifeSiteNews.com) - The director of the Texas Planned Parenthood abortion mill
where the 40 Days for Life campaign began has resigned, saying she experienced
a conversion after watching an ultrasound video of a child being killed by
abortion.
"I just thought I can't do this
anymore, and it was just like a flash that hit me and I thought that's
it," said Abby Johnson in an interview with local news
network KBTX 3.
Johnson
had been affiliated with Bryan's Planned Parenthood facility for eight years,
and worked as its director for two. She said she began to feel
uncomfortable with Planned Parenthood's business philosophy after the
organization, suffering from the economic downturn, told her to try to bring
more abortions in the door. "The money wasn't in family planning,
the money wasn't in prevention, the money was in abortion and so I had a
problem with that," said Johnson.
But the turning point for Johnson
was reportedly when she witnessed an actual ultrasound image of an abortion
being performed on an unborn child.
"I feel so pure in heart. I
don't have this guilt, I don't have this burden on me anymore," said
Johnson. "And that's how I know that this conversion was a spiritual
conversion."
Johnson resigned on October 6th,
near the beginning of Bryan's sixth annual 40 Days for Life campaign, and she
has since joined up with the nearby Coalition for Life to begin praying near
her old workplace. Coalition for Life is the local group that began 40
Days for Life, the national prayer and fasting campaign that was ongoing at the
time of Johnson's resignation.
"This is by far the most amazing
thing that has happened to the Coalition for Life throughout its entire history
... we thank God!" wrote Coalition for Life director Shawn Carney, who has
been working with Johnson since her resignation, on the group's website.
40 Days for Life national director
David Bereit said that Johnson's "amazing conversion demonstrates the
importance of a constant, peaceful prayer presence in front of abortion
facilities."
"From that first campaign in
2004, we've prayed for Abby - and for all abortion workers - that they would
come to see what abortion really is, and that they would leave the deadly
business. In this case, those prayers have been answered," said
Bereit. "We are so proud of Abby's courage to leave the abortion
industry and publicly announce her reasons for leaving."
The story is receiving broad
attention after it was posted on the Drudge Report website today.
Planned Parenthood reacted with
legal action on Friday by filing for a temporary restraining order, seeking to
prevent Johnson and the Coalition for Life from disclosing confidential
information. "We regret being forced to turn to the courts to
protect the safety and confidentiality of our clients and staff; however, in
this instance it is absolutely necessary," said Planned Parenthood in a statement.
A hearing for the restraining order
has been set for November 10.
Johnson is one of eight abortion
industry workers who left their jobs during the fifth coordinated 40 Days for
Life campaign that concluded yesterday in 212 cities. She was the highest-ranking
of the eight. Others who quit their clinic jobs included nurses, office
staffers and security personnel.
In addition, a Planned Parenthood
abortion facility in Kalispell, Montana announced that it will close its doors
on November 20, citing a decline in business as the reason for the closure.
That clinic was the site of a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil this past spring.
